HAWAII’S “TSUNAMI”

I have never seen so much reef sticking out of the water… The ocean was receding to the lowest of low, and within minutes surging to a hella high tide. Back and forth like that, all day. Stupid tourists wading all the way in were suddenly swimming, surrounded by deep water. A man drowned infront of the beach bar where I work, and a monk seal was stranded on the sandbar when the tide went out. The seal made it, the man didn’t.

All in all, the effect on Hawaii was pretty minor. The unpredictable tides were an odd sight to observe through the day, but they were hardly a danger to those of us smart enough to stay out of the water. On the news, I see people in California crying over their broken boats. Seriously? Get the fuck over yourselves. Thousands are dead in Japan, and hundreds of thousands more need our help now. Let us (do more than) pray.
