WALL KALIEDESCOPES

There’s something hypnotizing about kaliedescope art. Rachel de Joode has designed three collections of custom wall-coverings. From afar, these designs are decorative and modish but close up they reveal to be beautifully patterned fashion photography images!

Available in collaboration with design-agent/producer, Soonsalon.

UNDER THE SEA…..

Creepy reef installation made of people….  Would you go snorkling to see this installation?  Amazing, yet creepy…

British artist Jason de Caires Taylor‘s Mexican installation and reef conservation project is for a fine cause. Taylor has 350 statues in place—all cast from real people—that will end up sprouting coral.

Taylor hopes that when his statues eventually bloom with coral—and they should, thanks to their carefully-neutralized pH levels—the attraction will divert tourists away from Cancun’s natural reefs, which are being stressed to death by the over 750,000 people who crowd its coral and underwater creatures every year. The goal is to finish the artificial reef with 400 statues—adding up to 120 tons of concrete, secured 10 feet under the ocean’s floor. Though we’re all for ocean conservation, you have to admit that the project looks fantastic already, even without coral. I just wouldn’t want to visit alone at night.

A LEISURELY DAY

So I love The Getty Center in L.A.  It’s the perfect place for a picnic on the grass in the warm weather sunshine.  Bring in what you like… Wine, fruit, cheese, bread, olives (my picks from Whole Foods) and a blanket.  Then relax and enjoy while doing a little people watching or daydreaming.  Take a leisurely stroll through the green gardens where you will see all sorts of beautiful living things.  I’ve spotted a few fascinating spiders hiding deep within the plant life.  Climb some stairs and take in the magnificent views of the city and the design of the buildings surrounding you! I could come just for the views! They are grand! Bring a camera! And if the weather gets funky or too sunny, The Getty provides free umbrellas for all! I love it! The umbrella bins are placed in various areas around the walkways.

Admission is also free! You do have to pay $15 for parking but it’s free after 5 p.m. on Saturdays when The Getty stays open until 9 p.m.
